I made a cute nursing cover for a friend of mine for her baby shower and she loved it! I am making her two more out of flamingo fabric and Cleveland Indians fabric!
The original nursing cover was a pink and white one with hearts and a Marilyn Monroe theme. She is a Marilyn Monroe fan and Marilyn Monroe was the theme of her baby shower. I found the perfect fabric for it here on Etsy.
I made it using the Simplicity 2165 pattern that I found at Joann Fabrics. One thing that I did change on the pattern is that I added velcro to the strap. I found that the fabric was too slippery when I slid it through the D-rings. Therefore, by adding the velcro there is now extra security to prevent any unnecessary slipping. It works best to sew one piece of velcro, about 5″ in length, to the end of the strap. Finally, I sew a second piece about 9″ up from the end of the strap.
There is also a pocket on the backside of the nursing cover. The pocket can hold things such as a pacifier or rattle. It keeps it clean and secure.
I also like the boning around the top of the nursing cover. It allows mom to look down on the baby and it keeps the fabric somewhat off of the baby’s head. It still allows mom to cover up for those moms who chose to cover. I know that some moms prefer not to cover and that’s great too. My post is just a little post about a nursing cover that I made for a friend who prefers to cover while breastfeeding.
The pattern is very simple to follow. When I made the second two the sewing went much more quickly. My friend is a Marilyn Monroe fan, an Indians fan and likes flamingos. This pattern allows me to totally customize the nursing cover fabric and it makes the nursing cover much more personable.
